A young man waited patiently outside a brick building, his bright eyes shining in the darkness. His hand rested on a black-handled knife close to his side. He waited, muscles tense, teeth clenched.
He heard a cruel laugh. “Well, what do you know? The Nephilim apprentice! Are you a big boy now, Ravenshade?”
The boy growled furiously. “As a matter of fact, yes.”
“Do you? Can you can fly now? Think you’re an all-powerful Arch now, do you? Trying to forget you was ever a little Nephilim? Or, did you turn out as I thought you would...” the demon sneered, “… fallen?”

Archangel Michael’s aura still had a red center, but there was much more purple than the last time I’d seen him. It was such a vivid purple, it looked almost cobalt blue. Despite this vivid color, he still radiated a golden glow that made him look tanned and blond. He wore a royal purple robe. His white wings shimmered red and gold. His blue eyes twinkled. “Hello, Ember. What pleasure to see you again.”
The room we were in was just off the first balcony of the central building in Acada. It was a room of— guess what? — white marble, with a large fire pit in the middle that was filled with ashes and wood.
